Tomei are well known in the aftermarket performance industry for their performance Camshafts.
Tomei, a private family owned company, started in 1968 with the development of camshafts. The Tomei Logo is a cross-section of a camshaft. So by chosing to go with a Tomei camshaft, you know you won't go wrong.
There are 2 names for the camshafts that Tomei classify their cams. PONCAMS & PROCAMS.
PONCAMS
The "Pon" in PonCams is from the Japanese term "pontsuke", which means bolt on or "drop in" application. These cams are designed for optimum performance that will still be compatible with the stock valve train and stock ECU. Naturally even more gains are possible with a retuned/ reflashed ECU. The nock pin is in the stock location, the same as the stock camshaft. So the valve timing is preset at Tomei to be the same as the stock camshaft. So you can install these cams the same as you would with the stock camshaft.
PROCAMS
As the name suggests, PROcams are for serious professional use. These aggressive duration and high lift camshafts, are designed for true race performance use. So these are not suitable for daily street driven cars or those on a limited budget. Procams will require at least the valve springs to be upgraded. Take note from the Tomei website that these are often made with a thinner cam core. So you will need to run other Tomei valve train products to use these Procams.
